ICF-7500W

Another genuine design idea by SONY:

small portable radio in stylish design, loudspeaker with amplifier may be removed
and you'll have to parts- One a radio walkman for use with headphones - great idea!
been made around 1977.
Picture taken from original sales brochure.

FD-20AEB

Watchman by SONY:

the FD-20AEB multinorm- portable TV-Receiver of 1985.
Could be used in germany, uk and the us.

Will not receive any signals for years now (2017) due to conversion to digital transmission
standards (dbvt) which is state-of-the-art and incompatible with the old analogue 512-lines PAL-Standard (Germany and EU)

ICF-5900W

The High-Tech analogue world band receiver - dual conversion technology.

The 5900W has ambitioned technology for it's age (1976) with chrystal marker and dual conversion shortware receiver, the scale mechanism allows frequecy reading accuracy of approx. +-5 to 10 khcs which is absolutely ok for AM broadcast receiption. Of course it can be used for SWLs to listen to Shortwave-Hams in SSB.

After the years it often suffers from different contact problems at  least at one of the numerous switches. This can be solved with a drop of Ballistol Oil. Helps also with "cracking" potentiometer regulators.

WM-DD2 red

SONY Walkmen still belong to the best ever made cassette players.
I still own my DD-II in red, but it suffers from broken central-gear disease as most of these units after 30 years.
2 years ago i could manage to buy a professionally restored DD33 and a DD-II in silver from a skilled person (i'm too lazy to dismantle it and collect all these tiny screws and stuff to do it myself .;-)
Unnecessary to mention that i still keep all my recorded cassettes from the 1970ies on, Maxell and TDK Chrome mainly from 1981 on. Most of them still sound great!

Doen't it look gorgious in this cool color? i like it most!

still all stickers present

one of these tiny screws is missing

the transparent pane often has cracks

This pic shows a small plastic lever, which is often broken and then the head will not be moved to its correct position and no sound is played.

The DD33 in my opinion is the best in quality SONY ever made, it came out around 1991.
Will present it in a different post.

ICF-6000L

This one is completely different, looks a bit like a wooden bar.

Its shares the good sound with remarkable bass. Has 4 wave bands with longwave (great receiption, perhaps due to a long ferrite rod antenna) and uses 3 big mono-cell batteries.

There is a US-version with PSB as well i recently saw on ebay but didn't bid on it because of the high shipping amount from the sellers home in the states to europe.

What's this about?

Hi Fans,

this is about one of my strange (?) Hobbies - collecting vintage stuff, in special the genious SONY
Radios/Walkmen of the 70ies/80ies.

This one is one of my favorite Radios, came out in 1974 and i like it for it's design and performance. Specially the sound is great - even after 40 years still better than most of these china trash on the market nowadays :-)

There are different versions of this radio, the one for the japanese market with different FM-Range - 76 - 90 MCs and - funny thing - a voice-amplifier-function in connection with a microphone.
A 3rd one i own is the US-version with PSB-FM-Band instead of  Marine, FM and MW is the same than the EU-version has.
